The German word Held means hero.
Not the cape-wearing kind.
Not the blockbuster movie kind.
The everyday kind.
The kind that quietly shows up when life becomes difficult.
The kind that helps carry us through.
Sometimes our heroes are people.
A friend who answered the phone.
A parent whose advice echoed at exactly the right moment.
A spouse who stayed beside us.
A teacher who believed in us.

But sometimes our heroes are much smaller.
A favorite song.
A prayer.
A warm cup of coffee.
A treasured stuffed animal.
A journal entry.
A walk.
A memory.
A single sentence that arrived precisely when it was needed.

Many of us finish difficult days remembering only the storm.
The problem.
The argument.
The disappointment.
The fear.

Yet if we look carefully, we often discover something else was present too.
Something helped.
Something held.
That observation inspired a simple reflection practice we call HELD.
At the end of the day, pause for a moment and ask:
«What HELD me today?»
Not what challenged me.
Not what frustrated me.
Not what went wrong.
What helped me continue?
What gave me strength?
What kept me moving forward?
Sometimes the answer is profound.
Sometimes it is wonderfully ordinary.
Perhaps it was faith.
Perhaps it was kindness.
Perhaps it was a reminder.
Perhaps it was simply knowing tomorrow would come.

The goal is not to deny the storm.
The goal is to notice the lighthouse.
Because stewardship begins by noticing what nurtures us.
The more we recognize what genuinely helps, the easier it becomes to welcome more of it into our lives.
So today, take a moment to reflect.
What was your HELD?
Who or what helped carry you through the day?
Share it in the comments.
Your answer may become someone else’s HELD tomorrow.
