Every trip we took where we chose to drive, i would put in my Steve Miller Band Greatest Hits cassette tape and play it over and over until we reached our destination!
The verse You chose from “The Joker” is quite famous. i used to sing it loudly, thinking it meant he was a guitar player (a picker), and really enjoyed playing and traveling with his band (a grinner), loved his fans (a lover) and was with many woman (a sinner). i always envisioned the band playing live daytime concerts (playing their music in the sun). After all, it was the 1970s and i was only a teenager.
Looking at this passage as an adult, these lyrics take on a deeper meaning to me. Not sure if it’s what the band had in mind though. As a picker, i choose my actions because God gave me the gift of free will. i’m a grinner because i found true happiness when i chose Jesus as my Lord and savior, and i’m a lover because i choose love over anger and hatred. i am a sinner and every day i choose Jesus over the lies. i play my music in the sun, and in the light of God!
